ACCELERATED READING
JUNE 5, 2008
SUMMER ACCELERATED READER
Are you ready for some summer fun?
The Library will be ready for you!
As we have done in the past, the Library at South St. Marys St. Elementary will be open for summer reading. The Library will be open on Wednesdays from 9-12. You and your child may come anytime during these hours for as long (or short) as you want. Students will be allowed to check out books, stay and read and/or take AR quizzes. The dates for the Summer Reading are:
June 11, 18, 25 and July 2, 9, 16, and 23
Students can also take quizzes on books they check out at the Public Library. Remember to check the binder at the Library or online to make sure we have the quiz. The AR label on the Public Library book may indicate a quiz from St. Marys Parochial School. We don't have all the same quizzes.
MAY POINT TOTALS
As you can see the students continue to do outstanding work. I think the selection of books available helps as we continue to expand our collection. We have lots of new books and many wonderful choices. There are well over 10,000 books from which to choose. This is of course in addition to the books the teachers have in their classrooms, many of which are also AR. I know the teachers are reminding students to stay on track as far the incentive program. We don't want anyone to miss out whenever it is. Mr. Grumley also gives reminders as the time gets closer. Thank you for your help.

students, 86% of the student body, enjoyed a great day at Memorial Park and Pool on May 28 and May 29. We are very proud that so many students were able to participate! Although the children are the ones who take the quizzes, we appreciate your efforts to encourage reading. We know the incentive program is a great way to promote the Accelerated Reader program and thank you for your help. Below are listed the number of student in each grade level who participated in the reward.|

On Monday, June 2 we recognized the top ten readers per grade level for the fourth marking period. These students received an ice cream sundae and a certificate marking their achievement. Over the year, of the total 60 students each marking period, many were new recipients. There were some students who achieved this goal more than once, but many more were not. We feel this incentive, gave those who obtained their yearly goal early another goal to reach.

The AR quiz list has been updated to show the
10,035 quizzes available to the students. The Library recently purchased more books with quizzes in order to keep up with the amount of reading going on in our school. Click HERE to access the list.Keep in mind the Public Library also has titles that we have quizzes for. Some of the titles with AR labels at the Library are for quizzes at the parochial school so just check the binder or online that we have the quiz.
