Teacher: Mrs. Catalone Room Number: 501
Course Description: This course is intended to provide students with an overview of the tools available to design and develop web pages for the Internet using Microsoft FrontPage software. Students will learn how to create web pages with formatted text, graphics, hypertext links, tables, frames, and multimedia components. This will be accomplished using lecture and hands-on projects and exercises.
Class Materials: Each student is expected to have
· A folder and/or notebook to keep class work and corrected assignments in.
It is the STUDENTS responsibility to keep graded assignments in case there are any questions at the end of the quarter.
Grading: Grades will be compiled from a multitude of assessment strategies. These include homework, tests, quizzes, in-class projects, and participation. Each of these assessment strategies will carry different point totals depending on the importance and difficulty level of each. Grades will be calculated on a straight points basis: that is, taking the total points possible throughout the quarter and dividing that by the total points earned.
**Current grades will be posted each Monday. Be aware of your grade and any missing assignments**
Classroom Expectations
Preparedness:
* Keep lecture notes, assignments, and handouts for class in your folder or notebook.
* It is your responsibility to come prepared to class. Students will not be permitted to return to lockers for forgotten books, assignments, etc.
* Each student is expected to bring your folder and pen to class.
Behavior:
* You are expected to be courteous in class. You are to sit quietly during lectures and presentations and take notes. Any inappropriate behavior on your part will distract other students and deprive them of their right to learn. Raise your hand to ask or answer a question. Do not conduct private discussions with other students. You are to remain in your seat at all times unless permission is granted by the instructor. Classroom disturbances will not be tolerated.
* Class begins as soon as the second bell rings. Students are to be in their assigned seats, quiet and ready to begin when the bell rings. Being in the hall outside of the room or roaming around the room will not be tolerated.
* Students are not permitted to sleep in class.
* Upon completion of class work, students may work on other assignments.
* The student is expected to create an atmosphere of learning. Therefore, inappropriate comments about class work or other individuals will not be accepted and will be dealt with as a disruption of class.
* Students are expected to be working the entire class period. Students are not permitted to stop working or line up before the bell rings until instructed to do so by the teacher.
Special Course Policies
Homework: Homework not typically given in this class but when it is assigned it is expected to be completed on time. For late homework assignments points will be deducted (typically every late assignment is worth half of the credit) or a zero will be given depending on the circumstances.
In-Class Projects: Ample time will be given in class for most students to finish these projects. For each project, there will usually be an in-class deadline (determined by the pace of the students). All students are expected to hand in work by the in-class deadline. If there is some reason why a project cannot be handed in on time, see me to make arrangements to hand in the project. For late projects points will be deducted (typically every late assignment is worth half of the credit) or a zero will be given depending on the circumstances. Late assignments are only to be worked on when all other class work is done or on the student’s own time. No late work will be accepted after a chapter has been completed and the chapter test has been taken.
Extra Help: Extra help is available both before and after school for those students who need it. In addition, students are welcome and encouraged to set up additional meeting times with me. Help may also be obtained at the facilitator’s office.
The Internet: The St. Marys Area School District policy of signing the Acceptable Use Form will be strictly enforced before students can use the Internet. Also, during class time, students may only use the Internet when it is scheduled during the course or with special permission from the teacher.
Absenteeism: Students absent from class for one class period or extended class periods are responsible for contacting the teacher and making up any missed work. It is not the teacher’s responsibility for contacting the student. A zero will be factored in to a student’s grade immediately until work is made up.
Tardiness: Students are to be in class before the bell rings. Any students who arrive after the bell without a pass will be marked tardy.
Cheating and Plagiarism: Cheating is regarded as a very serious matter and will not be tolerated. Cheating is simply defined as intentionally attempting to deceive the teacher into believing that the work submitted by a student is his or her own work when in reality it is not. Enabling or helping others to cheat is also cheating, such as providing someone with complete work (or a completed file) for the purpose of copying. Use of technology devices to access and/or share information without permission is cheating.
Plagiarism is regarded as cheating and as such will also not be tolerated. It is simply defined as stealing someone else’s copyrighted material and submitting that work as one’s own. Plagiarism would include writings or ideas taken from a copyrighted work of any form, most especially the Internet, without receiving the formal and legal permission in order to use the writings or ideas and/or citing the work with the proper citations.
Cheating will be dealt with on a case by case basis. Cheating or plagiarism will result in a zero on the assignment for any parties’ involved as well as possible disciplinary action.
Classroom Rules: Students will not be permitted to leave the classroom to go to their lockers. Students needing to leave the classroom for any other reason should try to do so before or after class. However, if a student must leave he/she must have their pass book in order to leave the classroom. Any student leaving the classroom without their passbook will face disciplinary action.
