Day-By-Day Itinerary
Fly to Mexico, where, upon arrival, you’ll meet your bilingual EF Tour Director. Get acquainted with Mexico’s bustling and diverse capital city as you stroll along Paseo de la Reforma to Avenida Juárez. On Day 2, an expert local guide shows you the sights of Mexico City, including the Zócalo, once the heart of the Aztec empire. In the patio of the Palacio Nacional, see murals by Diego Rivera and view the Bell of Dolores. Visit the Templo Mayor Archaeological Site and Museum, which holds the remains of the Great Temple, the most important Aztec structure. Then travel to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe and admire the 2,000-year-old Teotihuacán Pyramids.
Snap a photo of the extraordinary Tonanzintla Church and visit Cholula’s Great Pyramid en route to Puebla. On your tour, learn how Puebla was once the main route between Veracruz and Mexico City. On Day 4, visit Villahermosa, which houses many collections of Mayan and Olmec artifacts.
View the magnificent Mayan ruins of Palenque, situated amidst rain forests and jungles. Later, arrive in the coastal town of Campeche, where you’ll stay the night.
Head to the Mayan city of Uxmal where your local guide shows you the Magician’s Pyramid and the Nunnery Quadrangle. Continue to Mérida, capital of Yucatán, where you’ll see Government Palace and St. Ildefenso’s cathedral.
Stop in a small town and learn how tortillas are made before traveling to Chichén Itzá, once a sacred Mayan city, where you’ll see the pyramid of El Castillo. En route to Cancún, stop in Cenote X-Keken.
Make an excursion to one of Mexico’s best snorkeling sites. Xel-Há’s clear waters are protected by a lagoon, forming a natural aquarium for tropical fish and other marine life. Also visit the Mayan site of Tulum before returning to Cancún.
Depart for home.
