Lady Dutch move to 9 - 8 on the year
The Lady Dutch Soccer Team improved its record to 9-8 Tuesday afternoon, with a 1-0 win over the Punxsy Chucks.
The first half of play saw shutouts on both teams, as both had chances at net, but neither hit its target. It was just under seven minutes into the second half that SMA put the winning score on the board, on a Kayla Hoohuli shot. Further attempts by both teams were rejected.
“I was happy that we got the win, but I didn’t feel we gave everything we had today,” commented Coach Carr. “I’m hoping we can get back into the groove for Thursday’s match, our final regular-season game.”
The Lady Dutch will host Elk County Catholic on Thursday, for a 4:00 kickoff. Seven seniors, Kaitlyn Gaton, Emily Hathorn, Rachel Haines, Miranda Meyer, Kelsey Swartz, Beth Lyons, and Jocelyn Wensel, will be honored at halftime.
Lady Dutch Soccer pulls out impressive win.
The Lady Dutch Soccer Team improved its record to 8-5 on Wednesday, with a 6-1 win over the Smethport Lady Hubbers.
The first twelve minutes saw numerous attempts at net by the Dutch, but the Hubbers’ keeper was able to deny them. It was Kayla Hoohuli who broke the silence, from a Brittany Orr assist. Orr put one on the board less than ten minutes later. The Dutch continued to have their opportunities, but were unable to connect. With 2:30 left to play in the first half, the game took a half-hour intermission, due to a treacherous sky. After returning to the field, Smethport caught SMA sleeping, and put their lone score on the board.
Following a halftime switch of sides, with the
score at 2-1, SMA answered the Hubbers’ score with a Hoohuli goal at less than
three minutes in. Hoohuli went on to tally three more, one assisted by Sam
Kneidel, and another by Kalie Schmader. The entire team saw field time during
the second half.
“I was happy with the girls’ passing and communication,” commented
Coach Kelly Carr. “It created some great plays for us. I am really enjoying
the fact that they are taking advantage of playing the ball with their heads.
Hoohuli scored one of her goals from a header tonight. It’s usually like
pulling teeth to get girls to head the ball. The fact that they are so eager to
do it makes for a better game for us. Kalie Schmader and Sloan Foster played a
great game today. Our keeper, Becky Aul, also played well. Though she didn’t
see a lot of action, she handled the pressure situations well.”
The Lady Dutch will be back in action on Tuesday, when they host the Clearfield Lady Bisons for a 4:00 kickoff.
