Line Dance Project

Directions

Now that you have read what a line dance is, it is time to create a line dance of your own. You may take steps from other dances and combine them into your own dance, but the dance has to be a new dance created from your own minds. In groups of 4 or 5, you will be creating a line dance.

Steps to Follow

Pick a song that will accompany your dance.

Note: I will need to approve your song ahead of time.

Create a dance that can be continuously danced for an entire song.

Create a name for your dance; the more creative the better.

Create a fictitious origin of this dance-this must be at least one page typed in length. Include the following:

Where did the dance come from?

Who invented it?

How was it invented?

What changes has it undergone?

Present your dance in front of the class to your desired selection of music.

To Turn In:

1-page minimum typed fictitious explanation of the dance’s origin.

Separate paper typed including the following:

Name of dance

Group members

Dance steps written down

Each group member’s contribution to the project

The following is a grading scale for the project:

Steps of the line dance ________________ /20 points

Presentation to class ________________/30 points

Creativity ________________/10 points

Participation of group members ________________/10 points

Paper explaining the dance ________________/30 points

Grading Criteria:

_____ Steps of the Line Dance – 20 points

16-20 Points Students incorporate at least 10 moves in their routine

11-15 Points More than 8 moves are incorporated in the routine, moves flow most of the time however some transitions are rough.

6-10 Points Less than 8 moves are demonstrated, routine is rough and needs much more practice.

0-5 Points Less than 5 moves are shown, and the routine does not have a clear beginning, ending, or cycle

_____ Creativity – 10 points

_____ Presentation to class – 30 points

23-30 Points Presentation is clear and shows the routine has been practiced because all group members move in unison.

16-22 Points Presentation is fairly clear, however some group members are lost during parts of the routine.

9-15 Points At least ½ of the presentation is choppy and unrehearsed.

0-8 Points The routine is choppy and unrehearsed with many of the group members unable to move together in unison.

9-10 Points Group members participated and contributed significantly to the final project.

7-8 Points Participated and contributed ¾ of the time.

5-6 Points Participated and contributed to the routine at least ½ of the time.

0-4 Points Did not contribute to the project.

23-30 Points Well written, no grammatical errors. Shows clarity of thought and presentation.

16-22 Points Some grammatical errors, main ideas are fairly well presented.

9-15 Points Some grammatical errors, paper is rough and difficult to comprehend.

0-8 Points Paper has many errors, not well written.
