Strategy: Constructing Meaning from Non-Fiction

Method: Elements of Non-Fiction: Text Map I

The following method will help the reader use the predictable elements of non-fiction in each of the four text structures to enhance comprehension.

1. During shared or guided reading, construct a text map to illustrate the elements of non-fiction as they appear in the passage or book.

2. A variety of text maps are provided in folders for each text structure.
