“Don’t Laugh at Me”

Are your children responsible?

Do they do what they are supposed to do?

Do they think before they act?

Do they always try to do their best?

Raising a responsible child is a difficult task. Here are some ideas to help you in achieving this goal.

§ Read the story The Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room. Discuss with them each characters responsibility and why they have it. Let them know that they also have responsibilities, and what they are.

§ Give your child one or two chores that they are responsible to complete. Guide them in how it is to be done and praise them when it is complete.

§ Discuss with them community helpers, and what each occupations responsibilities are to the community.

§ Help your child in creating good decision-making techniques. Have them accept responsibility for their decisions. Discuss with them alternatives after the decision has been made.

§ Discuss with your child their personal responsibilities to themselves such as keeping their body healthy and clean and completing schoolwork make them assume responsibility for their choices involving these matters.
