“Don’t Laugh at Me”
*These activities are being listed so that parents may continue to support the school’s effort in providing a BULLY FREE ZONE!
Are your children
good citizens?
Do they cooperate with
others?
Do they obey rules
and laws?
Do they try to
make their home and school a better place?
Do they help
protect the earth?
Good manners are an important part of
citizenship. Using games to reinforce
manners provides children a chance to practice without embarrassing them.
· At mealtime have everyone
pretend to be eating in a restaurant.
Ask you child how he should talk to you and others at the table. What should he say to the waiter? How should he eat his food? What should he say if he wants to leave the
table?
· Encourage your children to
write a thank-you note to people when they do nice things for them.
· Line up several chairs and
pretend to be riding a bus. Practice
what your child should say if he bumps into someone or if someone gets on the
bus and there are no empty seats.
Helping
out is also an important part of citizenship.
· Consider giving
responsibilities to your child that she can take on to contribute to the
family. Discuss new ideas, but do not
make them seem like a punishment.
· With younger children you
may want to do the chores with them. Use
the time to talk to them, but do not do all the work.
· Watch a T.V. show with your
child that has examples of people helping each other. Discuss with them specific actions that show
good citizenship skills and other that do not.
