Classroom Rules and Regulations

 

Rules

1.    Students will not chew gum. A discipline form will be filled out the first time you are caught.

2.    Students will not touch what does not belong to them.

3.    Students will raise their hands before speaking.

4.    Students will go to their assigned seat upon entering the room.

5.    Students will be respectful of the teacher and their peers.

6.    Students will use appropriate language and conduct at all times.

7.    Students will uphold all rules as stated in the SMAMS handbook.

8.    Students will have all materials with them in class every day. A discipline form will be filled out if there is excessive use of locker pass.

9.    Students will be responsible for their homework.

10. Students will write concepts and homework in their planners daily.

Failure to abide by the rules stated above will result in discipline action as stated in the SMAMS handbook.

Bathroom Use

Students should use the bathroom between periods and only ask to go during class if it is an emergency. Student must fill out planner as well as sign the sheet in the front of the room. Only one student is allowed to use the bathroom at a time. Students must ask permission before using the bathroom. Permission to use the bathroom will not be granted during teacher discussion time or when we are watching a video.

Tardiness

Students are to be in their assigned seat when the late bell rings. If a student is late, they must have their pass signed by the teacher that held them. If you do not have a signed pass, you will be written up.

Participation

Students will receive 100 participation points at the beginning of the quarter. Points will be deducted for the following:

        -5 points: refusing to work in class

        -5 points: sleeping in class

        -5 points: writing notes to other students during class

        -3 points: working on other homework during class

        -3 points: not following along during class readings

        -3 points: not cooperating during group assignments

        -1 point: not bringing all class materials (pencil, notebook, planner, etc.)

The teacher reserves the right to change the number of points deducted from a grade or to add the to list if a situation arises.

Homework

All homework is due on the date assigned.  If an assignment is not completed for the appropriate class period, a note will be sent home in the  student's planner.   That note must be signed for the following class period or the student will receive a discipline referral.  All late homework assignments will be accepted but will only be credited 50% of the total score.  If a student has more than one missing homework assignment they will be assigned to 3rd Period Homework room until all missing assignments are completed.

Problem Passes

A student can earn a problem pass by using appropriate behavior in class. Passes will be given out to individual students as the teacher sees necessary. Each pass is worth one free point on the test. More than one problem pass can be used on the test. Students must have problem passes with them the day of the test in order to use them. They will not be permitted to go to their lockers during the test to obtain a pass.

Minutes with notebooks

As a class, you can earn minutes with your notebook while taking a test. You receive minutes by having good behavior in class. Minutes can also be taken away from a class if behavior is poor. Students must have notebooks with them the day of the test if they wish to use them. They will not be permitted to go to their locker during the test to obtain their notebook.

Performances

Every Friday, students will be given the opportunity to give a musical performance for the class. You are only allowed to perform one time each week. A good performance will result in 5 bonus points. Individuals in the class may receive bonus points by writing a critique on each performance.  Each correct critique is worth one bonus point. Students must be signed up to perform by the end of their class on Thursday in order to perform on Friday. 

Grades

Your grades will be weighted using the following scale:

      Tests, Quizzes, and Projects- 40%

          Assignments- 50%

        Class participation- 10%
