Assessment Question:*

 

1.  Paper/Pencil:** After listening to In The Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson, the students will write a time when they have been ridiculed,  teased, or had other hurtful behaviors done to them by classmates of friends.

 

     Answer:** Answers will vary based upon each student’s experience.

 

2.  Performance Question:** Write a summary of In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson.  Include character, setting and important events in your summary.

 

     Assessment Tool:** teacher created rubric

 

Activity: The Student will complete the Human Bingo Activity from the Don’t Laugh At Me Activity Book.  For each question on the Human Bingo Card, students have to find a person in the group who would answer it differently than they would. 

 

Duration: __Entire Lesson, not including reading the story, 40 - 45 minutes_____________

 

Resources for this activity: the book In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson, large chart paper (one sheet per student), markers, slips of paper with each student’s name in your class written on it (and hat or box), one copy of the Human Bingo Card for each student
