Activity: Gather Together: Introduce
"Don't Laugh At Me" - Introduce the idea that you will be exploring
issues of how to treat one another with caring and compassion through the
"Don't Laugh At Me" project.
Explain that throughout the project you'll be examining ways we hurt one
another's feelings, and discover how we can make sure everyone in your
classroom feels safe and cared for and is not ridiculed or treated
disrespectfully. You'll also be looking
at ways to bring a commitment of caring to the larger community of your school
and even to your town or city. Have the
students close their eyes and listen as the CD of Peter Yarrow from Peter, Paul
and Mary: singing "Don't Laugh At Me". Give only the following introduction: as I'm going to play a very
special song for you now. It is
entitled " Don't Laugh At Me".
Get comfortable, close your eyes, and be aware of the feeling, thoughts,
and images you have as you hear the words.
